Victorian Christmas

Cardfields staff dressed in Victorian clothing

With Christmas fast approaching visiting schools had the opportunity to step back in time to experience a Victorian Christmas at Cardfields. The young people dressed in traditional Victorian costumes enjoyed a fun-packed day experiencing the smells, tastes, games, stories, and crafts of a traditional Victorian Christmas in a Victorian country house.

They all took part in a range of activities, such as:

  • Christmas traditions that have been passed on by the Victorians and a chance to see and sample typical Victorian Christmas food
  • Christmas carols and stories learning about the origin of, and singing along to carols and playing parlour games
  • Christmas arts and crafts making a traditional Victorian Christmas card, tree decoration, and a Christmas wreath using foliage from our gardens

The day was finished off by singing Christmas carols around the Christmas tree. Visiting schools had an amazing day, we look forward to welcoming them back in 2020.
