Thornhill Nature Adventures

Thornhill Primary School had an amazing fun filled week at Cardfields with the weather being good and the sun shining the group took advantage of enjoying the great outdoors exploring Cardfields grounds and the Essex countryside. The young people became ‘Nature Adventurers’ learning new skills and taking part in many activities such as:

  • Orienteering around Cardfields grounds
  • Map reading to Heather Hills on a 6 mile hike
  • Shelter building in the woods
  • Learning about the fire triangle, safely building a fire and lighting it to cook toast
  • BMXing
  • Making minibeasts hotels within the grounds at Cardfields
  • Visiting Colchester Zoo
  • Team challenges
  • Feeding the chickens and collecting the eggs

Louise Ryer, Assistant Headteacher of Thornhill School said “their time at Cardfields was enjoyable and memorable. The children can’t stop talking about their experience and can’t wait to come back.  The changes to the grounds and house had a significant impact on our pupils, their well-being, their ability to collaborate, their resilience and their perseverance. The new play equipment you have installed was in constant use. For inner city children to have the opportunity to be free to explore and play in a safe environment is priceless. The learning, both in and outside the classroom, was boundless.”
